Sometimes the amount of stupidity in the world amazes me.

Fake kidnapping to raise kidnapping awareness. What a brainstorm. Well, a brain something or other.

Could this be akin to carrying a sporting rifle through Home Depot or Starbucks? I don't think they are the same but the argument could be made it is close to the same.

Kids think they're invisible to everyone outside of their immediate sphere - after all, everyone else is invisible to them (just ask any teacher in a crowded hallway!). What they don't realize is that there are other people out there in the world who ARE observant, and who notice things like this, and probably didn't notice one kid standing away from everyone else, pointing a camera at the action. When I taught multimedia a few years ago, we had some of our students who were tasked to do a short video pull something similar - only it was a deputy sherrif who saw them out in the parking lot, and braced the whole lot of 'em until things got sorted out.

It sounds more like faking a robbery of Home Depot.

The above link is a different kind of stupidity.

A teenage Dutch girl threatened American Airlines, pretending to be an Islamic terrorist.

Her IP address was promptly turned over to the FBI.
