Two armed men car-jacked a UPS truck in Northwest Houston. Drove it to where they had a car with possibly a u-haul trailer. Took what looked valuable.

If I was a UPS driver and someone pulled a gun they can have the truck regardless if I'm armed or not. I would use the firearm to protect my life, but not a truck full of other people's stuff.

When I lived Up North I visited Houston numerous times on business w/o noticing any particular problems, but now that I've retired to the Hill Country, and joined this forum, it seems that Houston should be the very last place on Earth that I would ever want to get near, for any reason.

Is it that texaschlforum compiles all incidents here in an interesting way, or is Houston truly a hell-hole that should be avoided at all costs!?

I post stories of crime in Houston, cause I live here. To me, due to CHL, it is less dangerous than most cities of its size in the US. From my postings patterns are being discovered. If you visit, don't stay out late and eat at a fast food restaurant near a freeway. That is unless you carry an extra magazine. And yeah, you profile people wearing hoodies especially in the summertime.

The reverse methodology is also popular: Go to a store that deals in high value merchandise (e.g. laptops or wide screen TV's), wait for a delivery truck, follow it through its route back to the warehouse, and figure out a way to hook up a tractor to a loaded trailer by exploiting gaps in security. This works even better because the loss is often not discovered for hours or even a day, and the goods have been delivered and sold before anyone realizes they're gone.

If they're smart enough to do research and read the paper then it's likely they already know about it. If they're not, they probably don't read the paper anyway. But these days, is there really anyone with an IQ above room temperature who doesn't know that a delivery truck like this is going to have a tracker?
