Maybe some LEOs can chime in, but it reads to me like the reporter transcribed it exactly the way police learned about it.
On medical first responder calls, especially where something violent/traumatic has occurred, the witness accounts tend to be disjointed, out of order, and often leave out important facts until later. Like Mr. Prosthetic hitting himself in the head with a bottle before he even got to the house.
I don't think missing a couple legs was his biggest handicap....
