American Sniper

Post by FL450 »

Just got back from seeing American Sniper.
A good theater movie, hard to say that about to many movies today.
I love the sound smell of jet fuel in the morning.
Fat thumbs + IPhone = errors, please forgive.

I liked it quite a bit. I wouldn't say it's the best war movie I've ever seen but it definitely did a good job of telling his story and I greatly appreciated that.

It's in a war setting, but it's not really a war movie. I would like to see it this weekend, but the wife isn't sure she can make it through it. My daughter has expressed some interest, but I'm not sure about that yet. She seen some violent stuff (all the Die Hard movies and Act of Valor) and it doesn't bother her, but the emotional aspect of this may be too much for her. She wanted to see Fury and I'm glad I didn't take her to that one. Anyone seen both that can tell if this is on that same emotional level?

I've seen both. Fury was defintely a highly charged war movie whereas American Sniper was a bit of a mix (like you implied). If your daughter read the book I'd say it will have a deeper impact than if she had not as I choked up pretty hard at the end.

Fury left me in awe whereas American Sniper left me saddened if that helps.

Same for me with Fury and will probably be the same with American Sniper.

Both movies are definitely emotional movies, but I think they tug slightly at different emotions. Without giving too much - Fury was more of a raw depiction of the horrors of war. While American Sniper was how a soldier can be consumed by war in regards to duty, family, and self. If she's seen Act of Valor, I think that American Sniper will be appropriate.

My wife and I saw American Sniper this weekend. A very powerful movie.
Its not about war so much as it is about a man and his life before, during and after war.

I was impressed by his heart and desire to do good. I think it speaks highly of American soldiers in general and the desire to help others. This quality is what makes America, as a whole, great.

The theatre audience was completely silent during the exit. Most stayed just about all the way thru the credits.

I would pay to see it again.

My wife and I saw it Saturday, I was struck by the silence in the theater at the end as well, very moving.

My SO and I saw it with another couple at the drive in on Friday. Maybe a drive in isn't a great venue for this movie, but I didn't find it to be the great of a movie. IMHO the true story is much more than could be recounted in a 2 hour movie.

My wife and I saw it yesterday in Bastrop. The audience reacted exactly tbesame as others noted here. I also noticed that the crowd waiting to enter the next showing were silent as they observed us leaving

My wife did not like it but she doesn't like to watch anything showing our men and women in battle. She has a huge place in her heart for our military.

I liked it but then I have been following the Chris Kyle story since the beginning. I bought the books when they first hit the shelves.

His killer needs to die.

Fury is way way worse than American Sniper as for violence and such. With that said there are a couple scene's in American Sniper that could really tug at someone but if viewed in the right manner while sad they show exactly what had to be done and happen to survive.

I can think of no movie that was as good as the book it was based on. So that's just about as close to given as you can get.
