Checking in first post
Hi,
Checking into the waiting room. Took the class Saturday and mailed the certificate and DD214 (veteran status paper) yesterday. Fingerprints appointment for Wednesday afternoon. So, I guess take a number and a seat and wait.
My two carry choices are my Springfield 45 and Ruger LCR 38+P. I love the 45 but the LCR fits my pocket holster real well and is a lot lighter to carry around.

Thanks for the welcome and good advice about the information posted here. Lots of it. I have been reading for quite sometime even before I signed up to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. There is a wealth of information here.
Take the time waiting to carry around your home to see what works and what doesn't, get used to concealment and the additional weight.
As a member here says quite often, carrying a weapon is supposed to be comforting, not necessarily comfortable.

Okay, the internet and all this instant information thing came along WAY after my formative years but I think it has changed me and our culture forever. I just sent off all of my application information 7 days ago and it seems like a LONG time to have been waiting.
Sending in three cereal box tops, mailing them off to Battle Creek Michigan to get a plastic submarine 3 months later that you fill with baking soda to see it sink to the bottom of the bath tub and just lay there looking nothing like the ad on TV would kill me.
Yeah, I know it's a run on sentence but otherwise it's not funny.

Yes it is!
Only I mailed off those same cereal box tops for the same submarine that you fill with baking soda...and watch it do nothing in the bathtub!
Be patient, and go to the shooting range. Get a holster for your gun and start wearing it around the house and practice drawing. Repeat the process. Time will pass more quickly than watching the grass grow.

Update. I sent the last of my application package in by snail mail on 3/18. No idea how long it took to reach them. Today is 3/27. I just got off the phone with DPS and they told me it was all approved and it was down to printing the ID and mailing it to me.

Update: 3/30: Card came in the mail today and the DPS website updated to show change of address/contact information menu items etc also today. 12 days, non business days included, from last parts of application (CHL class certificate and DD214 for veterans discount) dropped in snail mail to card in hand. Not too shabby DPS.WLB wrote:Update. I sent the last of my application package in by snail mail on 3/18. No idea how long it took to reach them. Today is 3/27.
