Church Resiprocity Question

Post by WildBill »

I am invited to my cousin’s wedding next Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Arlen and I want to carry my 1911 inside the church during the wedding, but I am worried about the Church Reciprocity Law. I want to be legal, but I am not sure about the reciprocity laws regarding church carry. My CHL instructor said that the Baptists had reverse-reciprocity with the Methodists, but not vice versa. He said that if I were a Baptist I could carry in a Methodist church in addition to carrying in a Baptist Church, but since I am a Methodist, I can only carry in a Methodist church and not a Baptist one.

I am still a little confused and wanted some more clarification on this matter so I called the DPS in Austin and had a very short conversation with a DPS Trooper, but after I asked the question we were cut off so I never got an answer. When I tried to call back the phone just kept ringing.

I am taking my girlfriend to the wedding. She has a CHL too, but since she is Jewish and can’t carry on the Sabbath in a church, so I don’t know what to do. Since the church is in a bad section of town I don’t want to go to the wedding without being armed. Please can anybody help?

We don't trust Methodists with guns because we normally best you to the cafeteria after Sunday services. Not sure how you'd react if carrying.

I think you should get a revolver. It's old school according to some people and that should generally satisfy all the religious sects mentioned.

BTW-Don't use the words religious sects in your conversation while speaking with anyone from the church about it. They might think you said something different. That could make everything go south in a hurry.

This type of confusion is exactly why we need non-denominational carry.

If I remember correctly, if it's a First Baptist Church, you can only carry if your weapon is somehow confined to a casserole dish. A Second Baptist church and any subsequent numerations are fair game and have no restrictions.

I am going to suggest to our Methodist Church Official Board that we vote to allow you good Baptists to carry in our churches if you bring a covered dish with you to throw in for the dinner in fellowship hall after services. I don't know what we need to bring when we visit your houses of worship?

The Lutherans seem to have a more open carry policy, with a return-to-regs mindset based around the original translations of the Constitution, but watch out! If you screw up, they'll really nail you to the door!

Problem solved. Your girlfriend can carry without an issue if she puts her gun in her purse prior to candle lighting on Friday evening (Erev Shabbat). Also, there is a web site that allows you to register as a Catholic for 24 hours, so you can do anything you want to at the wedding with no residual guilt. I think they are located in Las Vegas.

I go to a Bible Church.....we take the written text of the Second Amendment to mean exactly what it says....

....besides, if you don't carry in that part of town, you might be the only one who isn't.....

As a Catholic, I just go armed to whatever church I want (that's not 30.06 posted). If I happen to violate the host's policy, I'll just go to confession afterward and all will be forgiven! :tiphat:
