HB 2359 - Texas Taking Another Stand.

Post by joe817 »

This is worth a read and a discussion I believe. This is the first I've heard of this bill, but I sure do like it! :txflag:

"Relating to prohibiting the Department of Public Safety from responding to bulk requests from the federal government for lists of individuals licensed to carry a concealed handgun; creating a criminal offense."

Looks like a "federal agency" has requested from DPS bulk info on CHL's. Ahhhhh......NO!

It's scheduled for public hearing on 04/14/2015 for Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee.

This is a very short bill in reading it. Please take a look.

I'm okay with it.

I like it. Why do the feds need this particular information? We've already been background checked by them and given the thumbs up so what need is there? I really don't like the feds having files of information on citizens who have done no wrong.

Exactly! Other than the fact that THEY are building a database for some future use.

I'm for it. Nobody needs any more lists, especially the government.

HB2359 (HS) Reported favorably out of committee, May 5th. This is the bill that prohibits DPS response to bulk requests for CHL holders lists by the Feds.

The Analysis is not posted yet and I didn't hear them mention anything in the hearing about changes, so I'm not sure what was substituted.

HB 2359 was placed on the General State Calendar for 05/13/15, but for the life of me I cannot see any action on it, even after reading the House Journals for 05/13 & 05/14.

Is it stuck in limbo or what? Any ideas anyone?

It's dead. It didn't make it out of the House by May 14.
Keep calm and carry.

Someone at DPS needs to tell them "No, we won't release that information" and see what happens. Think they're willing to fight over it?
