I've enjoyed shooting my carry gun (G23 in .40) with full power ammunition in IDPA and IPSC for some time. However, to shoot competitively in the IPSC "Limited 10" category, I'd need the large capacity of the full size (G22) or tactical size (G35) magazine. Since this will be a game gun only (my first so dedicated), I naturally thought the G35 would be the right choice. However, some discussions in another thread have caused me some concern.

So my question to you is regarding the choice between the full size and tactical size Glock models: which do you like better for competition and why?

Go with the 35 for limited 10. That extra little bit of sight radius can make the difference between an A and a Mike.
I've seen IPSC/USPSA COF's with 85yd shots!

I would likely rethink my decision for a Glock 17 if I had to make 85 yard shots. Thank goodness that IDPA does not have those! I completely agre that the extra sight radius would be appreciated at that distance. At least I could say I was doing all I could do!

I'm just an interested spectator, so have no basis from which to vote.

But HV's note made me wonder if there is an official maximum target distance in IDPA. I gave a quick glance at Appendix Five of the Rule Book, and found only "...most target distances being 15 yards or less," and "...targets in excess of 15 yards can be allowed on occasion to test shooting skill." Offhand (no pun intended), I can't remember ever hearing of an IDPA CoF having a target at greater than 35 yards (I know Stage 8 at last year's Nationals had three targets at 35 yards, and partially obscured by barrels).

Not to give GH any nefarious ideas, but does anybody know if there is an actual maximum in IDPA? Or is it solely up to the MD?

The maximum distance in IDPA is 35 yards.

From the rule book:

CoF 2. Seventy-five percent of all shots required in a match
must be fifteen (15) yards or less. Occasional targets out to
thirty-five (35) yards are to be encouraged.

Yep, 35 yards max in IDPA but GH was talking about IPSC.

I have stuff hanging from my wall won at both USPSA (IPSC) & IDPA matches - all shot with a G35. You can't go wrong w/a G35. The added benefit from going w/a .40 for IDPA is that you can load so that it feels softer than a 9mm & turn around the next week & shoot major w/it in USPSA!

Yeppers. Jason added, "Thank goodness that IDPA does not have those!" (meaning 85-yard pistol shots). So I was just wondering if there were a definitive IDPA maximum.

DrKyle1 is keepin' me on topic, and if Longtooth isn't watchin', I'll confess my interest is because I'm thinkin' about picking something up I can shoot SSP with. Don't have much in my limited collection that would be useful in SSP...a 15-yard target with my G27 would feel like 35 with a 1911. So I'm in the market, myself.

Well, it's 4 to 3 in favor of the G35 (not counting myself). I haven't heard anything from the full size folks except Jbirds in a previous thread.

my thought would be the full size is going to have less recoil, and be more accurate.
for competition stuff, you're not worried about day to day concealment, just covering for the event, right?
