Dang! My CHL expired two weeks ago

Post by johncanfield »

I've had some health issues this year and was not focused on day-to-day housekeeping things, just checked my CHL on a whim and it's about 15 days expired. I just submitted a renewal and was wondering how long renewals are taking now. I did a forum search and found a similar question but the thread was a year old.

BTW, doing okay - been fighting cancer in 2015.

I can't answer your question about the time frame for a renewal but do want to wish you the best in regards to your health issues. Prayers sent your way!

First of all, best wishes on your health. Hope 2016 will be a good year for you.

Does DPS sent out notice to renewal? I want to know for myself.

DPS sends out renewal notifications about 6 months prior to expiration. If I remember correctly, they come in a pretty nondescript envelope, so it would be easy to miss.

OP, best wishes to you.

Applications for new licenses are taking about 8 weeks, so I estimate that a renewal will take 4 to 6 weeks.

My wife has dealt with cancer this year. She's better. Medical science is much improved. We all pray for your health.

Just renewed mine. Yes, I received a letter and followed the instructions. Took right at 4 weeks. They used my latest driver license photo, too.

I wish you all best for a full recovery! The LTC renewal should be considered a secondary problem. I never had to wait more than 5 weeks for a renewal and I think my 2nd last was actually completed in under 4 weeks.
I also wish you a Happy New Year.

The good thing is that you did renew, tho late, it will come.
Main thing is that prayers are being sent for yourself from many of us. God bless you and heal you.

Thank you so much everybody for the kind thoughts. 2015 was the worst year ever of my adult life, but I know God is the great Physician and He will take good care of me. Looking forward to a great 2016. :thumbs2:

Maybe a little off topic. I just read the law section on renewals at the DPS website and can't find the information on what is required for second, third, and subsequent renewals. Are they all 5 year renewals? Do you have to take the class each time. I seem to remember something about the third renewal, but can't find it. Any assistance will be appreciated.
