Guy apparently is a lawyer that lived nearby. His linkedin account summary stated his LLP was dissolved and "unwound". No other info in the summary, but I think that says it all. They may need to look for his ex law partner to check his well being.

I'm seeing a silver Porsche not black.

News is focusing on a Black Porsche convertible maybe a Boxter. May be more than one Porsche involved after all this is the West University area we are talking about.

HPD press conference going on now. Shooter had two firearms, on his person or in his vehicle. One was a semi-auto .45 ACP pistol (near the body), and one a .45 semi-auto Thompson Center (now Auto-Ordnance) carbine in the vehicle. In both cases the guns the guns were purchased legally. The carbine in 2009, the pistol in 2011. One--unclear which--was bought in Houston, and one in College Station. Authorities at this time will not confirm the name of the shooter--or exactly what he was wearing--until the investigation matures.

In total, he had about 2,600 rounds of .45 ACP on his person or in his vehicle. HPD has identified 75 spent shell casings at the scene, including from the shooter and from first responder LEOs. LEOs from HPD, Bellaire Police, and West University Police engaged the shooter. No officers were shot. HPD homicide captain estimates the distance between the LEOs and the shooter during gunfire exchange was approximately 25 yards. The shooter was using a tree as cover.

The shooter did, quite unfortunately, have a Texas License to Carry according to the acting HPD police chief. He was not wearing any type of body armor, but was wearing some kind of undisclosed "historic" or "historic replica" uniform of some sort. (Bizarrely, unconfirmed sources elsewhere--including KPRC, the NBC Houston affiliate--say it was a Nazi-era German uniform, replete with swastikas, and that a bound journal or notebook also bearing a swastika was recovered.)

Some of the injuries to the nine people are minor. One is in critical condition; one in serious condition. Both, at this time, are expected to survive.

Yeah he had Nazi stuff in the car. I can confirm it. They had TV video of the police pulling stuff out of his car, its real hard to miss the swasticia on stuff. It kinda stands out.

I'm glad he didn't spend more time at the range.

I watched a live video on ABC 13 as a robot and officers opened and investigated the Boxter. They removed a canvas looking ruck sack from the trunk. The contents of the ruck sack appeared to be wrapped in individual quart sized ziploc bags. It reminded me of a water resistant bug-out bag. In the top main compartment, the officer removed a notebook with a hard cover with that appeared to contain 20-40 pages of scrap book or hand written pages. The cover of the notebook had a fancy swastika bulging off the front like a homecoming mum mounted in the diamond orientation with a point (not a side) up to the top of the notebook. I remember red, black, and white coloring, but other than the black colored swastika, I can't remember what was white or red. The officer kinda tossed it aside like discovering a sticky, melted candy bar.

Google images says that the diamond orientation is Nazi, so I'll say the notebook had a Nazi swastika.

Nazi swastika. As Acronym noted, it was also on the journal/notebook--if not more items--removed from the Porsche. HPD has said they found, in the shooter's condo, numerous military memorabilia items dating back to the Civil War. This will no doubt be expanded upon in the next couple of days.

On another note, one that we should have expected, several news sources, including UPI stringers, are today stating that the firearm found in the Porsche was a "submachine gun."

I suppose that's a modern-media expected devolution from the HPD homicide captain correctly identifying the rifle as a Thompson .45 ACP semi-auto carbine, to someone divining that that's the platform of the famous "Chicago Typewriter," the Tommygun, to "journalists" now stating as fact that what was recovered was a submachine gun. :banghead:

The news report I heard last night had the police officer saying it was a Tommygun and I never heard any reference that it was a semi-auto which I suspected it was as nobody can afford a real Tommygun anymore (at least not in my circle). I wouldn't blame the media on this one. They screw up plenty of other things though.

In fairness to the LEO you heard on the news--and begrudgingly to the media in step two of the data devolution--Auto-Ordnance itself refers to all variants of the Thompson .45 carbine as a Tommy Gun. Just check their website at http://www.auto-ordnance.com/ or Google "auto-ordnance tommy". Heck, they even refer to it as the "Chicago Typewriter" right on their splash page.

No doubt helps sales and branding. But you're right: the incorrect leap of faith came when the media assumed that meant the firearm was something other than a pistol-caliber semi-auto, and began stating outright that it was a submachine gun. :???:
