At least, I have to assume that printing was a factor. The story says that the victim had his pistol concealed by a shirt. Obviously, the criminal was on the lookout, saw something, and took advantage of the situation.

Sounds to me that he was carrying SOB, It's one of the most unlikely places to print from. Although it's easy to actually expose the weapon or holster if the shirt tail isn't long enough. When I carry SOB it's always a long shirt and inside the waistband. The gun I carry like that is a full sized Beretta P92.He had a Springfield XD 40-caliber handgun in a holster in the back of his waistband, and his shirt covered the weapon

Note the incident happened a year ago. Fortunately, such incidents are very uncommon.
