In news other than the presidential election, issues in 3 states that were heavily funded by Bloomberg were successful in getting anti-gun measures passed.

Nevada narrowly passes (50.45% for / 49.55% against) expanded background checks for all firearm purchases - Nevada Question 1

Washington passes extreme-risk protection orders to allow the court to temporarily prevent ones access to firearms after a protection order type hearing. This one is very troubling as it can be easily abused in any family law related case - Initiative 1491

California Proposition 63 passes as follows:
- Requires individuals to pass a background check and obtain Department of Justice authorization to purchase ammunition.
- Prohibits possession of large-capacity ammunition magazines, and requires their disposal, as specified. (No Grandfather clause anymore)
- Requires most ammunition sales be made through licensed ammunition vendors and reported to Department of Justice.
- Requires lost or stolen firearms and ammunition be reported to law enforcement.
- Prohibits persons convicted of stealing a firearm from possessing firearms.
- Establishes new procedures for enforcing laws prohibiting firearm possession.
- Requires Department of Justice to provide information about prohibited persons to federal National Instant Criminal Background Check System

This type of legislation will be more common in the next few years as a means to enact what couldn't be done on the federal level. Domino theory to pass gun control one state at a time.

All of these laws can be challenged at the Federal level, and with a conservative Justice appointed to SCOTUS, I foresee most of them being overturned. Although there will be much teeth gnashing and cries of overreach regarding State's rights, it will be a fun day to watch the shoe being on the other foot.

The Feds can remove the restrictions of the school zones, Federal property, and the Post Office restrictions. Most of these I believe can be removed by executive order.

I would be happy if he just removed the federal gun free zones. Going after state level restrictions would likely be more trouble than it is worth.

There are a number of things Trump needs to get done. Yes, he has a Republican congress, but just fixing the damage caused by Hussein is going to take a lot of time. Trump will need to prioritize his efforts. And getting rid of federal restrictions like the GFSZA and the Post Office is low hanging fruit.

Or...here's an idea...turn those over to the NPS (and/or the states) like they should be, and let them contract the CoE when there's an appropriate project. We don't put park rangers in charge of battles, and no part of the Army should be running parks.

Yes. A federal law could prohibit any state or local laws that prohibit the carrying of a firearm "that has traveled in interstate commerce, or that impacts interstate commerce." This is the basis for the federal gun free school zone law.

Since he will be the Commander-in-Chief of the military, that is indeed a very low hanging branch. He won't even need and Executive Order. He just has to issue the order to all branches and in one fell swoop their would be no more restriction. In the same order he could eliminate all restrictions on carrying on all military installations.

Events like the one at Fort Hood would become just a painful memory.

Wow. You mean if you're in CA and you want to pick up a box of shells for skeet practice or sighting in a new scope or something, you have to "pass a background check and obtain Department of Justice authorization to purchase ammunition"? That's hard to contemplate from here in Texas.

Back in the mid-70s I bought a Mini-14 and several 20 and 30 round magazines from a place called Wild Sports near Sacramento and no one even raised an eye-brow. In 1973 I bought a Ruger 10/22 at the JC Penny's in a mall in Sacramento. Bought many of my favorite guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition in California in the 70s. Then it was fairly gun friendly. Glad the AF decided to move me out of there in 82. Haven't been back except to change planes in LA or SF a couple of times since.
