The main thing we should be looking at is the prevalence of prescribing antidepressants for ADHD and other mental disorders to people aged 18-24 years old. These drugs should not be prescribed for this age group. How about "time outs" or a good old-fashioned spanking for bullies at school? There are already "black box" warnings on these drugs, but patient-doctor discussions are generally not done on follow-up visits, and most people won't take the time to read the adverse effects of these drugs. These face-to-face follow-up discussions should be mandatory for this age group. The FDA and primary care physicians should be involved, not the CDC. Guns are not a disease, for Pete's sake.

single parent homes, no church, the liberal schools, drugs, greed mental heath issues, entitlement mentality being "wronged", ETC., ETC...

I bet if the school shooters (or any mass shooter) were tortured and mutilated until death, we instantly see a reduction in the rates of school shootings.... even if they planned suicide, the risk of being caught and tortured would be a great deterrent.

The CDC is not prohibited from researching "gun violence," in spite of what the Democrats claim. The prohibition on funding "gun research" applies only to the promotion of gun control.

IF there were there would be millions more cases of acts of violence. Just because a person watches or listens to something doesn't mean they are inherently destined to act violent. Using that argument is the same as saying "Just because you have a gun, your more likely to kill someone". Both are nonsensical.

Granted that this is true. Still, it is telling that the Army uses such tools in training to increase the combat effectiveness of the trainees. While the connection between video games / media and actually acting violently may not be demonstrable, the connection between video games / media and the ability to effectively employ violence is clear enough that our armed forces are using it.

We've played cops an robbers, cowboys and Indians, soldier, etc... as long as there's been little boys.
When my little brother and I were about 10 we decided to deer hunt in the woods behind the house with a bb gun and a butter knife that had a really cool antler handle. My brother was supposed to stun it with the bb gun and I was going to finish it with the butter knife. It's no surprise that we were unsuccessful in our hunt. But our imagination was flowing and we had a great time stalking our prey.

When I was a teen there was an onslaught of violent movies. Lots of horror flicks and the Faces of Death series was popular.

There were no major upticks in school shootings then.

We as a society have created a class of Habitual Victims. Personal responsibility is a thing of the past. Everyone is against you, and you've been wronged by so many people that nothing you do is your fault. It started many years ago with so many people saying their life was so bad because their parents didn't love them and give them everything they wanted. Trophies had to be handed out to everyone because of participation instead of earning a win. We can't hurt their feelings because they're so fragile. It's so bad now that a cross look is now bullying or sexual harassment. I really feel sorry for kids growing up in this environment. Some of them don't stand a chance with that mentality.

The prohibition stems from publoc statements by a slew of MDs in leadership positions in the 1990s pledging their bias toward finding that guns cause violence and then banning them. The director of Doctors For Responsible Gun Ownership led the fight to stop funding that "research" and details it pretty well in a series of papers on the DRGO website.

Every time someone mentions studying anything related to firearms, it is a guarantee that hands will be thrown in the air, the words "caved" or "sold-out" will be used, and the specter of a mass turn-in of all firearms is raised. I know the gun-grabber Democrats want to ban guns so badly they get giddy just thinking about it. But really I don't think the CDC "studying" this will result in any gun control laws. Will it waste money? Oh yeah, it will waste a lot of money. However, I wish people would wait until there is something concrete before they freak out because I think this will end up going nowhere. If a law is passed to "turn 'em in" because of the CDC studying violence involving firearms, then feel free to attack me about it then.

So y'all disagree with my assessment of violent media contributing to the rise in violence? Fine, strike that part and find fault with the rest of what I said. The left has an agenda and is willing to use every tool available to achieve their goals.
Perhaps I put too much emphasis on violent media and not enough on the destruction of the family and traditional values.
Removing God from classrooms, removing discipline from classrooms, removing high standards and expectations from classrooms, drugging every child that didn't fit perfectly into the mold.. well, I'm probably wrong about those being contributing factors as well.

Yeah, I played cowboys and indians, soldiers and all that as a child, hunted and ran wild in the woods. Watched a lot of war movies, read a lot of war books, played a lot of shoot em up video games, nope, never have felt a need to grab a rifle and start shooting people because I felt wronged by the world. Then again, my parents didn't fill my mind and body with powerful pharmaceuticals when I misbehaved, they whipped my butt.
