HB 1163 - Large Cities may Vote to ban Open Carry
https://capitol.texas.gov/BillLookup/Hi ... ill=HB1163
If a petition is filed with the government of a local municipality with a population of over 750,000 people to ban Open Carry within the borders of the municipality, a vote will be held at the next election to ban Open Carry in that municipality. This would make it possible for a city ordnance to trump state law.

I hear you. Most of these bills make me want to empty my stomach in the wrong direction. I'm afraid to see how much red is going to end up in the summary thread.
Re: HB 1163 - Large Cities may Vote to ban Open Carry
One of the better aspects of Texas carry laws is that we can count on the law being uniform throughout the state. If the left takes that away, it will be a major win for them.

Yet another Democrat written bill aimed at rolling back the freedoms that have been regained in recent legislative sessions.

The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

Yesterday was. I knew I was going to be in for a long depressing session of bill review when I saw that many gun related bills filed by Anchia.bblhd672 wrote: Wed Jan 30, 2019 1:15 pm Yet another Democrat written bill aimed at rolling back the freedoms that have been regained in recent legislative sessions.

The same bill was introduced last session. Basically gives Dallas, FW, Austin, Houston, and SA special gun control privileges. It died in committee last time and I expect it will be this time as well.

Much depends on the committee and its chairman.imkopaka wrote: Tue Feb 19, 2019 2:03 pm The same bill was introduced last session. Basically gives Dallas, FW, Austin, Houston, and SA special gun control privileges. It died in committee last time and I expect it will be this time as well.

Such a law would be a violation of the Texas Constitution.
It doesn't say the Legislature can pass that power down to certain cities.Article 1, Sec. 23. wrote:RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. Every citizen shall have the right to keep and bear arms in the lawful defense of himself or the State; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms, with a view to prevent crime.
Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. - John Adams

Find someone who lives in HD 103 to run against him and get enough support behind that candidate to defeat him.Syntyr wrote: Tue Feb 19, 2019 9:07 pm Let's get to the root of the problem and stop playing defense.
