I've got about a year...

Post by BShook »

I'm 20 right now, and will turn 21 in early March next year.

I've been shooting my whole life and I'm still doing it, in order to improve my accuracy and speed. If I'm going to be packing, I'd better be able to hit what I'm shooting at!

I'm also reading forums (especially this one) and trying to learn as much as possible about the laws here in Texas so I'll be well prepared.

Is there anything I can do right now or is it too early? Any paperwork that I can do now? Any other suggestions?

Here's what you can do.

Spend a lot of time here reading old posts, asking any question that you can think of and whatever you do, don't make txinvestigater mad. ;-)

You can also start shooting with or attending IDPA meets. There are several around town.

I think that you are wise to be considering this.

If you have any unusual circumstances such as being born in another country, or if you have been arrested, get the appropriate documents in order. That can take time.

These issues have been discussed in many threads on this forum.

You can take the course a few weeks or months before your 21st birthday. You can mail the completed application on your 21st birthday. You must be 21 when you sign one of the affidavits.

Practice carry in your home. This way you can try several different holsters or rigs to see what fits you best. Stay active in the forum and you will learn more than you can imagine.
And as far as TXinvestigator......respect the threads he has for us. I know the previous thread was accented with a " ;-) ", but in my opnion, he knows most of what you need to know in black and white.
Welcome aboard in the forum and never be afraid to ask ANY question you may have.
