I understand this. In fact, when I was younger, I would always exit the vehicle and go meet the cop at the rear of the car. The LEO asking you to join them outside the vehicle seems perfectly legit to me. Expecting you to disarm (and thereby handle your gun) before exiting seems like a recipe for disaster. What would he/she do if they happened to see the gun in the process?
