Rep finally said new prints ok. asked what my status was and she advised that something came back on fbi check. all my other bground checks look good. she said a technician had been assigned to my case. left voice mail and am awaiting return call from the technician.i do have 2 arrest in the early 90s. one for bad checks, that was dismissed and the big one from 91 that was a theft by public servant. it was a 3rd degree but dropped down to class a misdemeanor. (i was dumb and young then)i sent in certified dispotion papers from the courts. trust me i checked all the requirments before i started this process and tought i met all the requirements. the class a was clearly stated in court papers. so am i disqualified now? if id known about this site prior to starting might of saved me some money and headaches. ive been in this process since febuary. (see my posts in waiting room). 3 times for fingerprints. well someone please advise whats going on now with a technician assigned? was advised to give them 48hrs before i call back if i dont hear from her. may end up having to sell the ccw 9mm wife got me for carry if i cant get the permit. no reason in keeping it. tks for letting me vent some.

"Technician assigned" means that someone who understands the law and the CHL application process is looking at your record to determine whether you are eligible for a CHL.
A class A misdemeanor theft conviction from 1991 does not disqualify you.
It could be something unrelated came up from the FBI. It might be someone with the same name as you who has a problematic background.
Don't panic. Even if you can't get a Texas CHL for some reason (though I don't see a reason), you may be able to get one from another state. Many states have less stringent requirements.

That happened to me once. Got pulled over, had a pistol on me (well, in the trunk with a gun lock on it) and the cop kept asking me if I was sure that I was allowed to have it. Turns out someone with the same name but different social security number is not on good terms with the FBI.
When I was 20, I was pulled out of my car and arrested because my name and street name (not city or address) matched that of a wanted pedophile they wanted.
After they realized the man they were after was over 60, they apologized profusely, but yeah, I can imagine it happens a lot.
