Haltom City LEO contact

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

Haltom City LEO contact

Post by razrbak »

A very positive encounter with a motorcycle officer.
As I was leaving town on business I was rear-ended on 820 (north side of Ft Worth) during weekday morning "rush hour". We were both able to limp our cars to the next off ramp and into a BK parking lot and waited for the police. Officer Taylor arrived within minutes and asked our physical status and for a quick run down of what happened. The other gentleman asked for medical assistance as his chest was feeling very sore and Officer Taylor stepped asside and took steps to secure an ambulance. While there was some distance, I told the officer that I had my CHL, was carrying and asked how he would like to procede... he just smiled, thanked me and proceded attentions to the "at fault" driver. Once the gentleman was recieving medical care and the officer had completed that part of his work-up, he came over to me and did my portion... very friendly, relaxed. After, as were waiting on the tow to get set up, I asked why there was no concern about me having a firearm, he said something to the effect that CHL holders are not the ones he is concered about. He then looked at my munched up car and said, "man, he was moving when he hit you", I said "Yeah, don't know how I didn't cream the car in front of me", he laughed and said, "that would be because you where following at a safe distance". ;-)

So far so good. My only contacts with LEO'S while carrying have been nearly all positive, with the exception of one in Grand Prairie in 2006. I believe that was just because I wouldn't move my vehicle until I was sure it wouldn't ruin a tire. Accidents are not fun.

I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on.
I don't do those things to other people and I require the same of them.

Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

We don't hear enough of these kind of stories. These are probably the normal responses. Unfortunately too often the only ones we hear about are "Ohio Stops." Most of the officers out there are the good guys. We need to make sure these stories are getting out too.

...not just the stories but the compliments to his superiors as well. Take a second and drop a note to his. Not only will it make the Officer look good, but it makes us CHL'ers look like appreciative folks as well.

We hear a lot of upbeat and positive reports on this forum. I think, for the most part, the LEOs in Texas are cool with CHL since they can generally checkmark them off in the "good guy" column. So far, knock on wood, I have not been stopped since getting my CHL. Not looking forward to the day that it does happen.

I don't volunteer my ID to an LEO until and unless asked. I don't want to appear to be too enthusiastic about letting people know that I carry.

I did get a lecture from a Garland officer once years ago. I had let my CHL expire and did not carry anymore. He told me that I needed to get my CHL back and carry all the time. So I did.

Glad to hear this story...this is how LEO encounters should be. I live near Haltom City, so nice to know.
