Re: Starbucks folds to antis
OC has its time and place and CC has its place too. If I see riots or all around, you would bet I will be carrying my AK/AR all the time. It is legal and it would be the right time and place to open carry a long gun.
Now, it is imperative to solidify our base and campaign to pass 0C as Texas did in 1995 for CC. United we prevail.
Disorderly conduct with a display of a firearm has to be rectified too.

Re: Starbucks folds to antis
Back to the issue.
Starbucks has not given a no concealed carry warning as far as I can tell. If I see a 30-06 on their store I have been given notice. If I get a written 30-06 I have been given notice. If a manager asks me to leave I have been given notice. And although it is legal to open carry a rifle who in their right mind would want to walk around WalMart with their AK-47 in the open. Might be shot at by a CHL thinking he is shooting a BG. There is a big difference between legal and stupid.

Re: Starbucks folds to antis
Taking your argument to the end, then the NRA is no better than the Brady crowd because the NRA isn't willing to say OC and CC or no C? The division resides between those that believe an incremental (and generally successful) approach is better than an all or nothing approach. I can be supportive of getting both, without thinking the best route to get there is to demand both now.cprems wrote: What I don't get is the division between open carry and CC. This is the Second Amendment we're talking about here. If we fail to come together and support BOTH, then we are no better than those who wish to take away BOTH!
Granted, by your definition I am no better than the antis so my opinion may be of limited value.

If this is the case, then where are those who said getting open carry legalized would not impact the view of concealed carry in stores by the management?cprems wrote:CEO of Starbucks just stated he doesn't want CC weapons in his stores.

Yep, I saw the same thing. When Neil pushed him on how the workers would know if someone had a gun and if they were going to frisk everyone in the store, he basically said they weren't going to frisk people but this policy also applies to people with concealed guns as well.cprems wrote:CEO of Starbucks just stated he doesn't want CC weapons in his stores.

In the end, the extremes on both sides put his company in the middle of this fight and I'm sure it was causing him to lose customers. So I can see his point and as a business owner, he has every right to implement this policy; even if he has to twist himself into a pretzel trying to do it. As a customer, I don't have to shop there and I won't (not that it will matter very much because I maybe set foot in a Starbucks once a year).
Thanks,

Don't watch. As soon as you watch a video of the CEO of the company saying no concealed carry allowed, you've now been "orally notified" in accordance with PC 30.06.suthdj wrote:cprems wrote:CEO of Starbucks just stated he doesn't want CC weapons in his stores.

I, on the other hand, having read his letter and seen no PC 30.06 notice nor any such notice on the premises will continue to carry concealed as I always have in coffee shops.

Agreed.Charles L. Cotton wrote:This is the second time you're suggested this as one alternative. Just contact your Senator or Representative and ask him/her to file and work hard to pass such a bill. If you don't really view this is an alternative, then please stop suggesting it.cb1000rider wrote:If the sheeple are freaked out when they see the open carry of a rifle, we either need to change the law so that it's not allowed . . .
There is no one more pro-gun than am I, but if I'm in a store and someone walks in with a rifle slung over their shoulder, or in a tactical sling as I've seen some people do, then you can bet I'm going to keep an eye on this potential threat. Forty or fifty years ago that may not have been the case, but in the age of mass murders seeking plentiful media coverage, I'm going to be on high alert. If a stranger were to walk up to my front door with a rifle, they'd probably be looking down the barrel of one of mine while waiting for the police.
Open-carry of rifles and shotguns in urban areas isn't about exercising constitutional rights. It's a feeble and counterproductive attempt to pass open-carry of handguns through intimidation. In-your-face tactics don't work and I can't help but believe that people engaging in these antics care more about their personal notoriety than promoting gun rights. Calm, respectful, statesmanlike legislative efforts have proven successful for many years. Results don't came as quickly as most of us would like, but it does work. If fact, it's the only thing that works.
Chas.
Again I'm fine with OC of long guns in rural areas or where they traditionally would be (aka as a tool). I'm fine with continuing to do that.
If thats endangered then work with your representatives, and perform peaceful, non alarming protests at government locations.

cprems wrote:Yes and yes. As I stated in my previous posts, it may not be effective notice but its good enough for me.C-dub wrote:Cprems, do you have your CHL or have you actually read 30.06? This is a written request, not an oral request. You may certainly choose to do business elsewhere, as will many others, but this is in no way effective notice according to Texas law.cprems wrote:The CEO just said NO GUNS. Which part of that are you failing to understand?
Regardless of the what the law states, he has said NO GUNS. That is effective warning and its enough for me. I'll spend my money elsewhere!
What I don't get is the division between open carry and CC. This is the Second Amendment we're talking about here. If we fail to come together and support BOTH, then we are no better than those who wish to take away BOTH!
We need to get it together and do it quick.
You (generalized) either support the Second Amendment or you don't, we cannot have it both ways. This is an all or nothing issue. We don't get to choose bits that we like.
i reject your argument that its an all or nothing issue.

Re: Starbucks folds to antis
That's unfortunate... I'm still not sure if it qualifies as "notice" in the TX CHL law sense of the word since the letter (haven't seen the interview) said it was a request rather than a ban. I don't go there much anymore anyway.cprems wrote:CEO of Starbucks just stated he doesn't want CC weapons in his stores.
Let this be a lesson to people trying to draw attention to their cause... If your efforts make the mainstream news much before your bill comes up for a vote, you're just an adult throwing temper tantrums like a toddler, and people see that for what it is.

Reject it all you want. It's a fact!
Unless we all stand together (in a manner that is acceptable to ALL) we will fail and divided, we fall.
I lost my guns in one Country due to complacency and not wanting to get involved because it didn't apply to me.
Too many Americans have become lazy and complacent. Everyone wants everything but most are not willing to actually put in the hard work needed to accomplish the goal.
Americans think it can't happen here or to them? You are wrong! Just take a look at the last 2 elections.
It's time to wake the sleeping bear.
