Name your gun?

Good point. Name a weapon, and you start thinking it has a spirit, and thus a will of its own, and that's counter to every pro-gun argument.

Perhaps it would affect some people that way, so it is worth considering, but I don't feel it has ever worked that way for me. I've named my guns (and cars) for decades, and have never felt they were anything but guns (or cars).
For me, it is usually shorter to say "Bear" than my Pontiac Grand Am, and the same for gun names. Plus, if I happen to be on the phone, any extra ears nearby will not be tweaked if I say "Barry" as if I say my Beretta. That could include people physically nearby or people eavesdropping on cell phones

A number of respondents have mentioned the usefulness of having a code name for your guns to use in various social situations. To date, the only times my wife has asked me anything gun related in public was to ask either "do you have it with you," or "do you have something with you?" Each time, it was merely the inflection in her tone that told me "it" or "something" translated as "your gun." We do have a prearranged code for if I spot a 30.06 sign she doesn't see; and that is either "I forgot something in the car" if I'm going back to the car to disarm, or "I'll wait for you in the car" if I'm not going to disarm.

Perhaps from that aspect, it might make sense to name them, but I have to say that I'll feel silly doing so. I don't care if others do, and I don't attach a value judgment to it one way or the other if they do; but it's just not my style, really, to do it. But perhaps some code word which refers to a specific gun, more so than an affectionate name, might be useful.

...or... maybe I just need to loosen up a bit...

Sublime. That is exactly the gun and holster that I want! Except I want a Maguen David on the holster, instead of the Star of Texas (no offence).

I've been wondering what to call her, too. I thought of Narsil, but that's not feminine enough. Then I thought of 'Betty' (for Béatrice, my first girlfriend), but that's kind of kitsch. Or 'Cathy' after the character in Emily Brontë's magnificent Wuthering Heights.

I dont name my guns, but my wife and now my son have named a few of them. But thier imaginations seem stuck and the naming ritual is the same!

Wife (or Son) shoots gun and exclaims loudly "I like this one! It is MINE!" From that moment forward, the gun is called "MINE!"

My Sig P-250 was inadvertently named through a slip of the tongue by the gun-store employee who was helping me. He asked me, "Have you seen the new Pig C-two fif..... er, I mean, the Sig P-250, yet?" It stuck.... it's known as Piggy, or just The Pig.

There are others that I haven't named.

In public, though, my carry is usually just referred to as my "little friend."

I don't see a problem naming guns but I have too many to remember if I did name them,But if you ever tried to marry onea your guns then I would have to use the cookoo smiley and pointy finger smiley

I actually returned my first one, so my time was extended somewhat.

I am the reason that Rob added this statement to the HF1 page:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Crosscut stamping is done freehand and your holster may not exactly match the pictures you see on this site. Tucker creates each holster with Crosscut as one of a kind.
Each holster is an original.

The crosscut pattern is what sets the holster off. When I got mine the front only had curved lines and no crosscut. It was beautifully made, just not what I was expecting from all of the photos I had seen. They made a second holster without hesitation, but added the artistic license wording.
