All respondents, (Including Delete Button Scott),, made me laugh, good one.

Just a level set:

I believe everyone has the right to check on status and call/email the DPS if they went beyond the processing time to find out why that occurred. I also believe you can get mad when government has undo waste for a simple process such as a renewal or drivers license. I also believe that if you have valid reason (court order, documented work requirement, etc) maybe there could be a process where you pay a higher fee and get your application faster. I also don’t care why or who applied for a CHL, I have no issue with that nor is it anyone’s business. What is important to me may not be important to others.

Simply put, I don’t understand contacting your congressman after 61 days in hopes to get assistance with CHL processing. I want that type of attitude over topics that may be more impacting instead of just one person’s CHL grievance.

My initial comments did not lay this out like this but I have had personal experiences in life where a larger public response to government stupidity was desperately needed, but not provided, and then I read about those who's goal is to get their CHL sooner and it just touched me the wrong way..

You're right, our legislators need additional time to handle such important legislation as banning teenagers from going to tanning salons. :mad5 :grumble :mad5 :grumble :bigmouth

Thats just it; it IS the most important thing for the DPS to do, they have a seperate division that does NOTHING but CHL applications!
Boom wrote: What I don’t understand is why so many "fist pounders" would call their state representatives & the DPS, over and over and over to get a status of their license to carry a concealed gun? Truly amazing! Where is this vigilance over issues that really matter? .....
The law says they have 60 days, no if's, and's or but's. If I send in my application and 120 days later still have nothing your darn tootin Im going to call everyone I can to find out where my CHL is!

My vote counts just as much as yours, that means the state rep's office works for everyone equally. (emphasis on WORKS FOR) Wanting to know the status of a CHL application does not make one a zealot by any means, although I could apply that term to something at the moment.............btw, nice ACRONYM - that language is prohibited here fyi

Frankly, I could care less what you want. The constitution gives me the right to keep and bear arms, not you. To be honest, I dont care for your condescending tone. I think perhaps you are the one who needs to "get over it".

I have a lot of sympathy for applicants who recently turned 21, or recently moved to Texas, or experience delays with renewals.

At this point, I don't like your attitude one little bit.
Chas.
Actually Mr. Cotton, I didn’t violate any rules because my abbreviation wasn’t meant to be profane. it is a common abbreviation. Your entire post is full of contradictions. All I did was comment on my thoughts of the CHL processing activity. If you don’t like it, that’s ok, but don’t attack me personally. You don’t like my attitude? Why? It doesn’t agree with yours? That’s a poor excuse. I actually like your attitude because you are trying to prove your point. You should like mine because it gives you the forum to describe all the reasons why people are doing what they are doing to dispute my comments.

You indicated "You are factually incorrect in your complaint about bothering the DPS", I dont get what you meant by factually incorrect, what "fact" was incorrect. Doesn’t make sense to me. My comment has nothing to do with what is going on in the department, only that I did not agree with calling over and over and over...

I didn’t ignore the statutory requirement, wasn't my point. You have an issue call them or sue them. My comments were intended for those that over did it and did not have a good reason. Go back and read my comments and not the replies of others.

I wasn’t aware of the history you mentioned, but excuse me for first researching that before i believe a forum poster. I am sure it is true though and there are valid reasons to push hard on the CHL processing times to get better turnaround. I believe that. That said, I don’t need to educate myself on fist pounding because I stand behind my comments on those who choose to unnecessarily waste time only furthering their own agenda. Sorry, its my feelings so don’t attack me for it. Read the words "unnecessarily", (which is for some unknown reason I have been construed to disagree with everyone's complaints).

Here's your problem. You're thinking this is a problem for politicians. Its not.
1. Its an opportunity for them to identify constituants who will vote for them in the future. You get that CHL through then chances are I'm going to vote for you.
2. If it really was a problem, they could, you know do something about the problem itself. Enact legislation to reform the process. They could do it in 15 minutes. But again, its not a problem and they have more important tanning related legislation to deal with.

I had your initial feelings as well, until I realized its a major situation when, to get your CHL, you have to call somebody of influence. It smacks of a third world country, or even worse...Louisiana. :txflag:

Jason, read through my message... I would assume there is a department for CHL processing. if they go beyond 60 days, for sure, go after them...

You state, "I could care less what you want"... but then you proceeded to reply something about the 2nd amendment... hmmm, dont get it. If you could care less.... why comment at all? In case you dont understand, the CHL in Texas isnt about your right to keep and bear arms. You can still do that..

Frazzled,

You may be right, but it appears several from this forum have gotten their CHL without ever calling or emailing. Not sure about that...

I will say this based on all the feedback (that I figured would happen) by my post.. this is one area that I would definitely be cognizant of if I was a politician in Texas.

Maybe I'll call my congressman today to move mine along...

Thanks to all who passionately responded... I appreciate your passion for this sensitive topic.

Moderators, I thought flaming and personal attacks were against the rules? The last few posts have nothing to do with the argument and do not offer any additional insight except to flame and attack a poster.

Can someone on this forum tell me how many CHL permits are granted/denied in Texas in a Years time?
