My wife supprised me today

Post by tauruspt145 »

I recently aquired a keltec p3at and was dissasembling it to find out how it works. I finished up cleaning and lubing racked the slide a couple of times, and asked my wife if she wanted to try it. I handed her the gun and low and behold she racked the slide with no problem! :woohoo I have had her try my millenium pros my kimber and my helwig 9mm and she has never once been able to do this. It suprised me bc the keltecs got a heck of a spring on it. Before i had always chambered the round for her and now she can do it on her own, heck maybe she'll even like shooting the keltec and it can become her gun. Then i can buy something new

They taught the women at our academy to firmly grab the slide with their off hand, thumb toward the body, palm down, and then with the weapon hand to push the grip and frame forward and then to release the off hand from the slide. They taught this to everyone really as it is a more simple motor skill - under combat stress you will lose fine motor skills. But, it especially helped some of the little ones.

It worked much better for them. Might try this approach with her. It helped my gf with some of my guns.

CompVest teaches this method at the women's program too. I've never had any problem racking a slide (it's my favorite thing to do! Love the sound!), so while I hold the gun this way, I still end up pulling the slide back rather than pushing the gun. But you're right....I've seen it help a lot of people be able to chamber a round or unload and show clear.

The Cornered Cat web site has an excellent article on methods for racking the slide that work well for women. One seldom mentioned refinement they cover is that keeping the hands close to the body (while blading the target to keep the muzzle in a safe direction) makes it a lot easier to do than when the arms are kept farther out.

Thanks all for the reply's, :tiphat: i had actually seen someone talk about, having her "push the strong hand forward" method on this forum and that is what i was having her do. Worked like a charm.
