CompVest teaches this method at the women's program too. I've never had any problem racking a slide (it's my favorite thing to do! Love the sound!), so while I hold the gun this way, I still end up pulling the slide back rather than pushing the gun. But you're right....I've seen it help a lot of people be able to chamber a round or unload and show clear.gigag04 wrote:They taught the women at our academy to firmly grab the slide with their off hand, thumb toward the body, palm down, and then with the weapon hand to push the grip and frame forward and then to release the off hand from the slide. They taught this to everyone really as it is a more simple motor skill - under combat stress you will lose fine motor skills. But, it especially helped some of the little ones.
It worked much better for them. Might try this approach with her. It helped my gf with some of my guns.
The Cornered Cat web site has an excellent article on methods for racking the slide that work well for women. One seldom mentioned refinement they cover is that keeping the hands close to the body (while blading the target to keep the muzzle in a safe direction) makes it a lot easier to do than when the arms are kept farther out.TLynnHughes wrote:CompVest teaches this method at the women's program too.
