Gambling Revenues

Post by Oldgringo »

There is another current thread on the forum about an apparent poker party in Mesquite wherein somebody shot somebody over the stakes or something:

Is it just me or does it seem a little shortsighted and perhaps somewhat self-rightous that Texas does not capitalize on casino gambling? :rules: Take a ride east on either I-20 or I-10 and stop at the first half dozen casinos you come to. Take a gander around the parking lot and count the TEXAS tags. :txflag:

A lot of good could be done in Texas, as it is in other states, from the tax revenue off of legalized casino gambling - not to mention the construction and other jobs that would be created. I seriously question that any new people would go to heck if Texas legalized gambling. Furthermore, I am firmly convinced that this is an economic question rather than a moral issue. It has been proven, time and time again down through the ages, that morality can not be legislated.

BTW, neither Mrs. Oldgringo nor I gamble except at election times  . In a half dozen cruises and our travels through Las Vegas, Reno, Montana and Louisiana, etc. over the past quarter century, I doubt that we've put $5 between us in slots or elsewhere. I'm just sayin...

Not to mention the casinos right across the Red River.

Right! Hardly ever going that direction, I'd somehow forgotten about those.
