Pardon me, but thats junk. Its underfunded and poorly thought out. I do not take issue with the folks actually doing the processing, but with the follks who are in a position to improve the process and do not.Mithras61 wrote:I dunno about inefficiencies... I guess I have grown to expect goverment run offices to be like that. I stood in line for 30 minutes yesterday at the local post office. It had 5 or 6 windows and and 2 people working them. I was not suprised.cyphur wrote:Pardon me, but thats junk. Its underfunded and poorly thought out. called today, got in touch with a nice lady. she said they were about 30 days behind on putting apps into the system. no problem there.
she asks when i mailed it in, i said 35 days ago. then she says check in a week or two and it should be processed by then. ok....
so i ask her how long its been taking to get the apps sent through and approved, AFTER they are put in the system - she says about 45 days.
Now my math isn't quite correct, but 30 + 45 != 60. Oh well.....
Not frustrated yet. Just not expecting much at this point.

As near as I can figure, it seems to be about 10 days after DPS enters your application into the system. I keep seeing claims that they are running about 30 days behind in the data entry process, so I'd say you're looking at 45 days from the time you mail your app in at best (using their figures).Castex1 wrote:What seems to be the normal wait to get the pin number?
If it's been three weeks or more since you mailed you application in and they received it (and you can prove that), you might want to email them from their web site and request yor pin. You might consider calling them and politely asking what the status of your application is.
It looks to me like they have started using the date entered as the start of the clock for the 60 days. Does anyone know what the state's official position on when your 60 days begins is?
Well, good news. I called this afternoon and spoke to a very friendly and helpful lady who told me they are currently waiting on responses from Dallas and Bell counties regarding the background checks. Cool.
Apparently they were sent out yesterday, and my application info was loaded into the computer several days ago, however the online section still reads "Packet Mailed to Applicant". So while I was getting frustrated, they were working on my packet.
They say my application should be printed and mailed within 30 days. Lets see if they beat that mark and by how far....
So, timeline is:
-DPS-Austin receives packet Aug30.
- Packet "entered" into system sometime between the 2nd of October and the 5th of October.
- Requets for Background check info sent to Dallas and Bell counties on 5th of October.
