They are probably out considering other profession options....This line of work is dangerous....Beiruty wrote:most of concern where are the 2 other criminals who fled the scene?

I bet you that rifle isn't sighted for a range anywhere near inside that apartment. A shotgun, though, will impact just below where the bead is sighted. I'd sooner trust the 2 inches of buckshot spread I'd get to the front door knowing where it's going to hit, personally.karl wrote: Compare that to the diameter of a rifle barrel.

Sure beats the alternative, though.Pawpaw wrote:I'm betting if you were on the down-range side of it you would have a different opinion. I know I would!woodsong wrote:But neither is consistent with the connotation of the word "scatter" ...karl wrote: Compare that to the diameter of a rifle barrel.
Having even a well-aimed load of buckshot fly past you on it's way to dispatching the BG would still be an unnerving experience, to say the least.

We don't know the exact situation the good guy was faced with. Whether or not the BG was significantly taller than the woman he held would make a big difference in how much wiggle room there was for shot placement.NcongruNt wrote:I bet you that rifle isn't sighted for a range anywhere near inside that apartment. Ballistic tables are readily available, and a serious shooter will have noted where his rounds will impact from short range out to long.
If he's on target at a known range with a known load, the table extrapolations would be close enough to work with for up close work that has a few inches of error margin. Some folks I know tape this info to the stock for ready reference.

I agree with you 200%. I was simply addressing the word "scatter".NcongruNt wrote:Sure beats the alternative, though.Pawpaw wrote:I'm betting if you were on the down-range side of it you would have a different opinion.
