:iagree: It getting very late to book a cruise for August, but if you do decide on a Carribbean cruise, do not get a cabin on a lower deck or below the waterline. The temperature of the ocean is in the 80s and the room can be unbearably hot. Also, don't get a cabin at the rear near the engine room unless you like constant noise. Also, get the late seating for breakfast and dinner. If they are filled up, don't go on the cruise. A friend gave me this advice before I went on a cruise and I was very grateful that he did.

Tell everyone you're going to some exotic location and then hole up at home and enjoy the time alone.

The Cayman Islands are not too far away from Texas. Not inexpensive. Hot and Humid though, plus the ever present hurricanes could spoil the trip.

Luxury trip to New York can be a lot of fun especially if the bride likes shows, shopping and museums. Also not inexpensive if done right.

Fly to Reno and drive to Yosemite. See if you can get a cancelation at the Ahwahnee in Yosemite. A little of everything if she likes hiking, gambling and sightseeing.

Vancouver is really very pretty in August, so is the old city in Quebec. From Vancouver you can drive to Banff or a ferry to Vancouver Island. Stay in the neat old hotels.

There is always Disneyland or Disneyworld.

Guns are like parachutes, if your ever in a situation that you need one and you dont have one, you'll probably never need one again.

Gigag - If you are thinking NYC, let me know. I am an old pro at doing NYC on the cheap, but still having fun and eating well. I've gotten it down to a science and can eat three good meals a day, in Manhattan, for $25 or less total.

Not sure if your soon to be wife would be into this, but the best vacation I have ever had was in an RV (I have done the cruise/Mexico/Islands/Yellowstone/etc. many times). We rented an RV for 14 days last year and just explored Texas.

Pros: Take as much or as little time in a destination as you like. Stop when you feel tired, go when you want to. Pack once. Unpack Once. (No switching hotels like just road tripping in your car). Bring you own food. Buy local specialties and cook them on the road. Have your own personal AC'd break room (we went into Six Flags in the morning, came out and watched TV/made lunch in the cool AC, and then went back in for the evening shows).

Cons: The RV isn't cheap to rent or drive, but we were able to do things like steam shrimp in Port A, on the beach, with our traveling home 2 feet from us. I would say we certainly saved on food, as we brought most of it with us.

There are local places available throughout Texas, as well as some great one way deals at the site below.

Click on one way deals.

Good luck and congrats!

Not really the best suggestion around, but I took my new bride to the Poconos in PA, and one day we went to a shooting range. First time she ever shot a gun, in her life, at the age of 45, and now she carries, and outshoots me on CHL requals.
Real gun control, carrying 24/7/365
