Has everyone forgot? Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. They don't just hand those out to anyone.

...The problem I have with "career politicians" stems from how they have changed the legislative process from its original intent to what we have now. Very few bills are ever introduced that are not significantly changed, often in completely incongruous and clandestine ways and not vetted, before being voted on. This -- and a lack of term limits -- has led to "pork-barrel" politics, producing the present overwhelming Federal bureaucracies, the ever-more overwhelming Federal debt and the current economic crisis.

"Pork barrel politics" were around LONG before the current ability to pass legislation without reading it. The current habit of "passing legislation so the people can know what's in it" is entirely new with this administration. I'm in favor of passing legislation that prohibits any bill that's more than 100 pages long. If it can't be explained in 100 pages, I don't want it. (And I could be convinced it needs to be even shorter than that.)

Multi-thousand-page bills? Forget-about-it!

100 pages is a good upper limit, but I think it is still necessary to change the rules so that a bill, once introduced, cannot be saddled with every special interest add-on anyone can think of. When absolutely unrelated items can be added to bills (and are added to most every bill with a high likelihood of passing) we end up with all sorts of things happening that would not pass on their own, as well as the requisite spending for them. Any item with a financial impact on taxpayers should be separately captured in a bill that the activity/spending is directly related to, and it should be spelled out in common vernacular rather than muddled up in legaleze.

Germaneness??
Yes, this is essentially what I am referring to on a per-bill basis.

You know Obama must be getting nervous. Buckle up for the mud slinging. Democrats always seem to fight dirty when backed into a corner.

I read a piece today about a poll that said that "the GOP insiders" wanted Romney over Perry...and (why ask this, does it make a difference?) that DEMOCRAT insiders also think that Romney has a better shot at beating Obama than Governor Perry does. The "poll" was very limited in scope, I believe 200 "insiders"...and you should have read some of the comments. I know there are some on here who dislike the term "troll", but those folks WERE out in force on that comment page for the story. Why would I call them trolls? Because they kept posting the EXACT SAME anti-Perry talking points, snide innuendos, links to "incriminating stories" about the Governor's past, etc. It was all of a theme, pure smear tactics, nothing policy-wise, etc...there were some who were pro-Romney for sincere reasons, and some who were pro-Perry such as myself...but the bulk was antis who were doing their best to inundate the comment page with what they had to say so that no one could get a post in edgewise...it was truly sickening. But, some folks saw through the bull and said as much. I know that we in our little forum here have very little sway over this election, but even if I'm not the best at being a religious man, I'm sure going to hope and pray about this one.
