You got that right. Her move this year to press the House of Representatives to pass a U.S. resolution honoring Michael Jackson as an international humanitarian was wacky enough to have, of all people, Nancy Pelosi stand up and nip it in the bud because she new it would make her Democratic party look absolutely ridiculous. Pelosi shut down the proposal with a simple: "I don’t think it's necessary for us to have a resolution."Liberty wrote:The good news is that nobody not even the Democrats in the House take Silly Jackson Lee seriously.
If you're an ultra-liberal Democrat and you have a proposal that Nancy Pelosi thinks is too far out there to even bring to the table, well, my friend, you know you're way off the bell-curve.
Stopped by Congress but not denied a photo op, never denied a photo op, Jackson Lee later showed up at Michael Jackson's memorial service in Los Angeles with a framed copy of her 1,500 word proposed resolution--already nixed by her own political party, mind you--iconizing Jackson. She held it like the tablets of Moses as she spoke. She said at the service, "The king--yes, the king--the king stopped and said he cared about you."
This woman is not unintelligent. And she has uncanny instincts for self-promotion: she has an unfaltering, internal magnet that draws her to the media camera closest to her that has the best odds of airing her face and drivel du jour. And she is one of the most vehemently anti-gun Congress-critters from Texas.
Washington doesn't take her seriously. Even Nancy Pelosi doesn't take her seriously. She's an embarrassment to Texas.
Yet, defying logic, the only people who do seem to take her seriously are the voters in her gerrymandered district. She's never faced a serious challenge for reelection. And even with this year's redistricting, it won't change...no matter how that ultimately turns out.
If the voters in 18th Congressional District of Texas could be rallied in numbers to tell Jackson Lee that they supported firearm ownership, that they supported concealed carry, that they felt the Second Amendment was vital to their freedom, then she would do an about-face. She is a political creature first, a media-seeker second...and whatever else comes third and fourth.
We ain't gonna unseat Jackson Lee any time soon, so it seems to me the alternative is to figure out some way to sway her constituency to RKBA. Maybe the NRA could fund a grassroots effort at education in the 18th District. Maybe free NRA Basic Pistol classes for residents of that District. Maybe CHL instructors offering free instruction in that District. Dunno.
But what I do know is that if there were a groundswell of RKBA sentiment to hit SJL's office from her voting constituency, she'd flip like a flounder.
Nope. I don't live in her District. But I do live in Greater Houston. And I would give my right incisor to see this particular U.S. Representative flip pro-gun.
