You had the ammo compatibility story correct. The clerk did not.arod757 wrote:Quick thanks to the OP for the find and to Brettster for the intel about San Marcos. Headed over that way yesterday and purchased the 6920 they had in stock.
Only weird occurrence was the sales clerk telling me I couldn't shoot .223 out of that gun because it was chambered in 5.56. As this is my first AR, I patiently listened to what he had to say without argument, but I was under the impression that shooting .223 out of 5.56-chambered rifle was fine, just not the other way around due to the extra pressure of the 5.56 cartridge.
Picked up a Colt LE6920 at Wally World today.

They have stores in Austin and now Dallas.
To the OP: nice find!
My son sent me an email today. The Department is allowing them $2,000.00 to purchase a rifle and sight from GT Distributers. They are going to do payroll deductions of $50.00 a pay period until the City has been reimbursed.

Re: Picked up a Colt LE6920 at Wally World today.
...great support by the Dept!!! with that attitude, they'll probably provide plenty of practice ammo, too...
Re: Picked up a Colt LE6920 at Wally World today.
They give them a box of 50 duty rounds (.40) every month. They advise them to shoot monthly and at least 50 rounds of their duty rounds. I am sure they will do the same with the .223.
They just got a new Chief. I rode with my son about two weeks ago and was able to meet him. He is not someone who was hired from school to be Chief. He worked his way through the ranks. The best kind of Chief in my opinion.

My brother-in-law was one of those types of Chief's. He started as a patrolman and worked his way up the chain in the same department. He spent 6 years as Chief until he and the new city manager had some differences of opinion and he stepped back down as Captain over the patrol officers. He was well liked by 'most' of the officers, and the majority of the community.carlson1 wrote:They give them a box of 50 duty rounds (.40) every month. As for the OP, that is a fantastic rifle. I know you will love it.

Wal Mart is Irving does not sell firearms nor will they allow to order one.

Some suburban and city stores stopped for financial reasons (they weren't making enough to justify the floorspace).carlson1 wrote:Wal Mart is Irving does not sell firearms nor will they allow to order one.
The Grapevine and Roanoke Walmarts both have firearms and ammunition.

I assume that $600 price was pre-tax. I built the same gun for $495.00 tax and shipping included.flb_78 wrote:I picked up a DPMS Panther Sportical today at the WalMart store for under $600.

Should mention that the one I built used the oracle upper, not the slick side sportical.jmra wrote:I assume that $600 price was pre-tax. I built the same gun for $495.00 tax and shipping included.flb_78 wrote:I picked up a DPMS Panther Sportical today at the WalMart store for under $600.
I also stayed away from the DPMS lower.
