Another "humorous" Ken Herman column

Post by A-R »

Austin Statesman writer Herman again tries to be funny about CHLs bypassing Capitol metal detectors.

He is the only Wacho I can see in the room. Man, he is an idiot as far as I can judge.

Any Adult male who believes that he can do more harm than good with a gun is to me an insane person or another "Joker". I quote:
I took the course along with several other journalists, including some, like me, who probably would do more harm than good with a gun.
Least to say, the said author should not be trusted with pen, let alone with a weapon. :grumble :grumble

I own no guns, but I enjoy flashing my handgun license to get into the Capitol and to annoy liberal friends.
Well, then, it was worth him spending the time and money ... they "need" to be annoyed sometimes.

But please don't ignore the conversation-starting potential of impressing (or depressing) friends and family by showing them the state-issued license that certifies you might be a gun nut.
...Really? Aside from showing it to my wife no one has ever seen that license. That is part of the concealment. Also, everyone who owns a pistol and has a CHL is a gun nut? Who is this clown? :mad5
Hello. My name is Red and I used to carry a .45. Now I carry a 9mm and it's getting easier to admit every day.

Let's not take one's self too seriously. I believe that Ken Herman has written a humorous column that both supports 2nd Amendment and CHL licensees, takes some good swipes mocking the anti-gun crowd, as well as an honest, self-depreciating view of his own mindset about carrying a handgun.
Now, I remember my instructor advising the importance of "mindset" and weapons.

I offer people take a re-read from a more center-of-the-road perspective, rather from a stance of "here's another media wacko."
In this case, I suggest those thoughts are unwarranted.

There, I fixed it for you. :evil2:

It is only fair, considering how much guys like the journalist annoy me.

That is an impressive column.

For one thing, there didn't appear to be any typos. The last time I was a subscriber to the AAS, one could have thought the type-setting was done in the Zoo. The AAS had back then more typo's per column than the Wall Street Journal of that day had per issue! Following a story from front page was often an adventure, but there were only two TV stations in Austin back then so we had more time to decipher the meanderings of the fishwrap.

Back then, the Lege was Texas' answer to what became Comedy Central. When I was a student at UT, some member of the Lege introduced a bill providing that anyone who had served two or more terms in the Legislature and completed two years of law school could be admitted to the State Bar of Texas without having to have a go at the bar exam. Of course, only one person appeared to qualify for this somewhat unorthodox exemption, then Speaker Ben Barnes, who had been introduced at a bar-b-q at the LBJ Ranch as the golden boy of politics, a future President! After the guffawing and hooting subsided, someone introduced a bill that any graduate of an accredited Texas high school who had completed courses in biology and chemistry with a "B" or better could be a doctor without further formalities. And who will forget the antics of the "SO Bees" a few years later!

The state might be better off admitting CHL holders to the Capitol and banning elected officials.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Well the part in bold does happen. You can carry in the state capitol.

Though I'd give up being able to carry in the capitol if we could keep the elected officials out of it in exchange. "rlol"

:iagree:

At some level, it seems to me to be demeaning the reason for the special CHL treatment at the Capitol entrance to use it without carrying. The bypass was meant for those with hardware that should not be exposed in public, not for those who believe that they would do more harm than good with a gun.

He did say that he had the best shooting score in his class. Somehow, however, having a CHL and not even owning a gun seems to be a contradiction in terms.

ofcourse i dont understand why people rent guns to take their chl test. we had one lady in my class that bought a brand new glock and we had to teach her how to load the mags and teach her how it works. even after that she was scarry to be around in the range.I was suprised she passed the test. I dont think they advertise the chl class to teach you how to use a gun so i dont get why people dont practice beforehand.

But then everyone would know that you have a gun as you went through the line.
