Background Check
Hi all, new to the forums. I did a forum search and couldn't find what I am looking for. What source, or what information is checked during a background check?

Re: Background Check
It's best to disclose any and all arrests. If you can't get the info through a freedom of information act request or your military personnel records then tell them when you fill out the information for your license. IF they come across it then they will see that you at least told them about it and they can decide what to do. They will be doing an FBI background check so if the FBI has it then it should show up.

If you lie on the application and DPS finds out, could be you can forget about the CHL too.bhammer wrote:What if I "forget"about my arrest when filing out the app, will they see it in the FBI?

Re: Background Check
Disclose all arrests. A 20 year old misdemenor won't affect your CHL unless it was family violence related.

Re: Background Check
Thanks guys. Funny as it may sound, I am asking for a bud down the street that is considering his CHL and is worried about it.

Re: Background Check
Yes, I was joking around about it... I submitted my app last night and I have fingerprints on Friday afternoon.
Was at the range today with the wife. We shot a .357 with 38 first, then 357. The 357 was too much for her and she was comfortable with the 38. Then, we shot about 100 .40 rounds. She seems to think the 40 cal is just a bit too much as well. I think we will rent a 9mm and see how she like that but I think if she gets used to or practices with the 40, she'll be fine with it.

Re: Background Check
Don't force calliber on an inexperienced shooter, especially your wife. The best calliber for her is one that she'll feel comfortable with and will enjoy practicing with. If she acclimates to .40, great! But don't discourage her if she does better with 9mm.bhammer wrote:Was at the range today with the wife. We shot a .357 with 38 first, then 357. Re: Background Check
Yes, good point. She's going Wednesday to shot with a range rental 9 to see which one she wants.

Re: Background Check
It's not just the caliber, it can also be the weapon as far as the felt recoil force. Our Ruger SR40 is my wife's favorite handgun, so try different models in different calibers.
