Background Check

Post by RX8er »

Hi all, new to the forums. I did a forum search and couldn't find what I am looking for. What source, or what information is checked during a background check?

It's best to disclose any and all arrests. If you can't get the info through a freedom of information act request or your military personnel records then tell them when you fill out the information for your license. IF they come across it then they will see that you at least told them about it and they can decide what to do. They will be doing an FBI background check so if the FBI has it then it should show up.

If you lie on the application and DPS finds out, could be you can forget about the CHL too. ;-)

Disclose all arrests. A 20 year old misdemenor won't affect your CHL unless it was family violence related.

Thanks guys. Funny as it may sound, I am asking for a bud down the street that is considering his CHL and is worried about it.

Some of the choices we make when we are young!!! :banghead:

Yes, I was joking around about it... I submitted my app last night and I have fingerprints on Friday afternoon.

Was at the range today with the wife. We shot a .357 with 38 first, then 357. The 357 was too much for her and she was comfortable with the 38. Then, we shot about 100 .40 rounds. She seems to think the 40 cal is just a bit too much as well. I think we will rent a 9mm and see how she like that but I think if she gets used to or practices with the 40, she'll be fine with it.

My first permanent duty station in the Air Force was Kindly AFB in Bermuda :patriot: . I was 20 years old and had a spontaneous event happen along similar lines with yours but I didn't get caught. Holy cow - what a jerk I was back them. Hope it's smooth sailing for your CHL :cheers2: .

Don't force calliber on an inexperienced shooter, especially your wife. The best calliber for her is one that she'll feel comfortable with and will enjoy practicing with. If she acclimates to .40, great! But don't discourage her if she does better with 9mm.

Yes, good point. She's going Wednesday to shot with a range rental 9 to see which one she wants.

It's not just the caliber, it can also be the weapon as far as the felt recoil force. Our Ruger SR40 is my wife's favorite handgun, so try different models in different calibers.
