Eject.

I've never been married, so take what I say with a grain of salt... a relationship with issues like this is likely to fail at some point. There's no way it would even cross my mind to bend to another person's will when it comes to my own safety in a situation like this.

If she's going to threaten you, make her put her money where her mouth is and get your guns and/or license. If she breaks it off, it wasn't meant to be.... and if you conform to her desires, and the relationship fails anyway, then you went an awful long time unarmed because of a woman's feelings.

Nuh uh. Not me.

Sorry to hear about your dilemma Jason.

I was once wearing a similar pair of shoes. My wife did not tell me it would be a deal breaker, but she was adamant about even having a gun in the house at all. Prior to me getting my first gun I had wanted one, but didn't really feel the need. That all changed after our daughter was born. Suddenly we became more aware of crimes and other things going on in our area. When I pointed out to my wife the fact that if someone did break in and even if we did have a monitored alarm system it would still be a minimum of 3-5 minutes before the police arrived. I asked her how much damage did she think a person could cause in that time and how far away did she think they could be with our daughter by the time the police arrived, the light bulb went on and she told me to go ahead and get the gun.

I'm assuming you already have guns in the house, no? My wife made the mental leap of me getting a CHL all on her own. I hadn't said anything to her about it while I was considering how to bring it up when she asked me if I was going to get one. She said she thought I should and she has never expressed any regret since I have.

I cannot recommend that you should go ahead and get your CHL, but I also wouldn't recommend giving up on it either. All it may take is one event to open her eyes. Just keep watching the news. You never know. Tread very carefully and good luck!

It is almost impossible to argue logic with and emotional person. The bottom line is that the only thing which can stop an evil person with a gun is a good person with a gun. The CT massacre should be a sickening example of that. Good luck to you.

One of the things my instructor taught (his flying license had been signed by Orville Wright!) was that the great thing about experience is that you can recognize a mistake when you make it again. Seems to work for dating, too!

Jason,

try something along Baldeagle's reply. My husband got his first license not long after Susanna got the law passed, we had a friend who had left Luby's 5 mins before the gunman went in... yeh....where do you go to eat? sin/evil is everywhere.

When we moved to CO we got licenses there, I knew of the family who lost 2 daughters, do you go to church?

As soon as we moved back we got our licenses here again.

It started as my husband wanting to protect me and our children. It became, US, protecting each other and our teenagers, until they can legally protect themselves.

My first wife and I, and our two daughters, used to shoot on a rifle team together. When we married she wasn't "anti-gun" she had just been too busy being a single mom to think about it.

After she passed away and I started dating my high school sweetheart again, after a separation of 28 years, the first time she came to my house she saw my gun cabinet and told me that she didn't think she could live in a house with guns in it. She has outshot me on CHL qualifications twice now.

My shotgun is in the house. My compromise with her is it's unloaded, but shells by it. Being a bird hunter, I can load quickly when I have to.

We do go to church, and she's often asked, "what would we do if something happened at church?" Well, I hope I know what I'd do.

I'll keep y'all informed as to the progress.

A shotgun is the only gun you have in the house? Is that the only gun you own at this time?

I'm encouraged that she has formulated the question about church? It may take some time, but so did the Grand Canyon. I doubt she will take as long as that did, but it appears that there is hope.

That's completely out of character with your description in the original post and makes me wonder what's really going on in this woman's head? Why would she even ask about church yet think guns inside your own home are outlawed? Which is more likely to occur?

Now I'm really confused.

I got my CHL before the ink was dry on the legislation. My wife didn't object to either my getting it or my carrying "most of the time". Conversations got interesting when she found out I was carrying even when we were at church. All it took was a couple of close calls (she had long since been relieved to find I had carried despite her objections on a camping trip, and had a couple of probable near attacks) and she was getting her CHL, within a year of me receiving mine. The rest of my family, inlaws included, just assume I am armed when they see me.

I have felt that way but alas, my conscience and fear of God ran roughshod over that philosophy.
