Most opinions about this man seem based on him being stable and doing something stupid, maybe..., but I think the men in white suits may be called for more than scolding...

I could see that being the case. So, which do you hope you run into, someone dumb enough to do this or someone crazy enough to do this?

I would never do this!! But knowing my luck if I did, I would get the greeter who decided to carry a gun even though they were not legally allowed to or trained to do so. He or she would panic and start shooting before I could say, "just testing security".

Given statistics being what they are, you would in deed have to be a very lucky (or unlucky) man. Statistically, CHL holders simply do not react or behave in that manner.

If it were me, I would:

1) Pull my gun, point it at him and order him to the ground. (In the current climate, I am taking all such threats as serious statements until proven otherwise)
2) Shoot him (if he continued being a threat)
3) Call 911 as soon as I possibly could (assuming someone else wasn't calling while I was busy with #s 1 & 2)

Don't forget "SHOW ME YOUR HANDS".

There are sound tactical reasons that police officers focus so heavily on hands. Even though we are NOT "emergency personnel" or "Batman", that doesn't mean we cannot recognize a valuable tactic and adopt it in the rare event we would find ourselves facing dealing with a potentially armed BG.

No. Punish him to the fullest extent of the law. He terrorized people with his act. He should pay accordingly.

That's why I said, "not legally allowed or trained to carry". A CHL wouldn't react that way. I'd get the vigilante parent with the itchy trigger finger.

So, I'm a greater at my child's school, I have my a CHL, and have been given permission to carry inside the school. This guy comes in and says he has a gun and he's here to kill someone. What do I do and what am I legally able to do?

1. Call 911.
2. Try to physically restrain him.
3. Pull my gun, point it at him and order him to the ground.
4. Shoot him.

If he said it, but didn't show it, I wouldn't show mine yet. Not at a school in this climate. It might be tactically wrong, but I don't want the talking heads to rage against these CHL vigilantes who overreact and escalate.

What if it was a student who said it? Same answer for me. If you draw and they were lying, you'd be justified, but we'd take a severe beating in the media
I'd command him to not enter the building and have my hand ready to draw. I'd also tell somebody else to call 911.

Just thinking out loud... and glad that we homeschool. (Although I hate disarming to go to HOA board meetings at the school as a board member knowing we've had to make some tough decisions over the years that weren't always popular.)
