Dog owners criminal background checks.

Post by VoiceofReason »

This bill died in committee but it is just shows another attempt by the government to further intrude into peoples lives.

http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2013/04/25/pit ... /?mod=e2tw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The background check bill would have applied to owners of breeds "designated as “aggressive.” And the owners would have had to take at least four hours of training courses. They also would have had to pay to apply for a special “aggressive dog” permit from the state’s insurance department."

"The law would have applied to owners of pit bulls, mastiffs and Rottweilers and other large breeds to undergo criminal background checks". :banghead:

I got no problem with background checks for owners of dangerous breeds. No one will ever take my wife's Bichon Frise anyway.

I wish they would.

Is there even a law to prevent convicted criminals from owning a dog?

How far are you willing to go allowing the government to regulate what you lawfully can and can’t do?

I wish they would make owning saturday night specials like Bichons illegal so I could throw it in the bayou.

My wife and daughter own a dog grooming shop. Next time I see you I will have to tell you what they call Bichons. Not 10yo acceptable.

I didn't know we were allowed to say "Bichon Frise."

I like your thinking...we're on the same page, but I frame it from a different reference point.

Where's the consistency? I honestly think that about 80% of the problem in our legal system today, and much of it is due to the lack of critical thinking our minor indoctrination programs (commonly referred to as public schools) are teaching -- that nobody sees the parallels. In short, were such silliness implemented on a consistent basis, you'd need to fill out a form 4473 to purchase a Rottweiler, and in some states possibly have to have at least two fangs and/or incisors surgically removed to comply with tooth-capacity limits.

But generally, people will accept such absurdity as long as it doesn't affect them personally, completely missing the parallels between the situations.

And for what it's worth, I've never registered any of my dogs either :)

Okay, hyperbole mode off.
