It takes about 1 minute or so to burn 1 disc, depending on just how much information you are putting on it and the speed of your drive. So about an hour or so for 50. But the cost savings of putting them on disc, coupled with the savings of not having to go to print store (time and gas), far outweighs the cost of 1-2 hours of my time. Of course, when you start getting upwards of 50 people in every class, a couple/3 classes (or more) a month, then it might begin to reach a break even point because it takes far less time to sit a stack of books on a desk and have students pick them up on the way to their chairs than it does to burn, label, and envelope a set of discs.

I went ahead and had some printed...not too many because I know a revision will likely come soon. I plan to roll the $1.18 cost of printing, folding, stapling into the cost of doing business. I really want the student to walk out with something they can keep and reference. Maybe I am too much a newby.

Thoughts?

My husband always does, and he includes powerpoint slides for them to take notes on. Its a business decision.

I offer a printed CHL-16 in my classes only because i received one when i got my CHL and just figured it was standard procedure......and now I've heard from many saying they never received one in their CHL class ! I'll continue offering them because i still catch myself referring to it many times and even keep a copy with me at work. I'll instruct off my power point, but will refer them as to where in the book they will find each code. I also explain how to search the book, such as government codes up front, penals in the center, and family and state codes toward the back.

I called Office Depot and looks like it will cost almost $3 each (and I plan to staple it myself :( ) .

I got the cost down to $2.34 w/ a coupon. :)

But, I messed up. I printed it on full pages, front/back. Took 36 sheets for each handbook.

If you print it 4 pages to a sheet (2 on the front/2 on the back), could get it on 18 pages (just like the DPS hand out. :)

I'm not sure that Office Depot can take the PDF file and re-order it/print it that way. You might have to print out 1 copy, (72 pages) then re-arrange the pages yourself and feed them into the copier to get 4 pages to a sheet of copy paper.
