I work for a library (not a Librarian) and actually asked our legal office about this because some vague wording in the employee handbook made me wonder if I would be violating city policy by carrying in the library on my own time. Since I'm an hourly employee determining what is my time vs. city time is fairly easy. After several emails were exchanged and clarifications made the upshot was if I'm on my time I'm like anyone else and the library COULD NOT be made off limits to CHLs under current law. I would just have to behave as a patron and stay out of employee only areas.cprems wrote:My question is this. Can you be asked to leave the premises when the the law states it cannot be posted? What are the legal ramifications?
If I were to be asked, I'd comply and file a complaint with the appropriate authorities.
The part in red is significant because I know some Librarians were trying to get libraries classified as educational facilities so concealed carry would be illegal. I do not know if there is still any push for this or how far they were able to get. I hope it never happens since libraries in general tend to have lousy security and our system is worse than many.
