This is not an oops. If you refuse to cooperate with police, and worse yet point your weapon at them, you should expect to be shot. The police have no requirement to first determine if you are a GG or a BG. That could be fatal to them. Rule 3: Never point your weapon at something you don't intend to destroy. Rule 5: If you ever point your weapon at someone who is armed, you had better fire immediately, because you are about to be shot.
If he did point his gun at the officer.
Enough said
The Chicago PD superintendent is way off base with his comments. Although it does not happen very often, sometimes homeowners are shot by the police. I do not know if he pointed the gun at the officers or not, but even if he did I would hope that they are trained well enough to read his demeanor by how he was holding the handgun. This is not the only incident; in McKinney in the late 1990's a police officer shot a homeowner. Where guns are. People are going to get shot. We all need to be as safe as we possible, but accidents will happen. I do feel that it is our right as a free people to bare arms. My uncle a Fort Worth police officer was shoot and killed on duty by a drunk, so I do realize the officers do need to protect themselves. I do not have enough information to blame the homeowner or the Fort Worth officers. Even with the few accidents (of all kinds with guns) I feel safer exercising my right to carry.
