Brits and Aussies study American Gun Owners

Post by CHLLady »

"The authors focus on people who are racist being the ones who are more likely to buy guns, but they also speculate: "simply owning a firearm may lead whites to develop more negative attitudes towards blacks. There is some experimental research showing that participants who have recently held a firearm produce enhanced salivary testosterone levels and display increased aggression toward others."

For me, it's not about race whatsoever. It is about sexism. You are male and I'm female choosing to level the playing field. Well, tilt in my favor. ;-) But darn this salivary testosterone!! Nobody warned me that I might grow hair on my tongue or cheeks. "rlol" Darn it, it's something else to wax! And why hasn't anyone ran screaming from me when I CC? I'm Miss Bad A-- now. I'm not doing some, thing right! :headscratch.

If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you carry a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

This one reveals its bias in the introduction:
Several mass shootings in 2012 (e.g., Sandy Hook Elementary School, Connecticut; Aurora, Colorado) reignited gun-control and firearm ownership debates in the United States (US). The public health importance of gun reform in the US is clear and should not need such tragedies for policy change.
Can't they at least wait until they show the results before showing such bias? This tells me the 'researchers' were convinced of their results before they studied anything. So convinced, in fact, that reading even to the next sentence is a waste of good pixels.

Nothing to see here people. More drivel from those who want to take away your freedom.

So "experimental research" is what they are calling "studies" these days that start with bias, and then try to fit facts to a story line that agrees with their bias.

I wish they would study dentistry and promote dental hygiene instead of worrying about our gun ownership.

They are just afraid to admit that they messed up their own gun ownship situations and now want us to join them. Any lie and distortion (climate change anyone?) to accomplish their goals.

I just spent the week here in London, and I had the opportunity to engage in some friendly discussion with some locals about our 2A rights. From the few that I talked to, they are too far gone now. They cannot fathom how guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens can make life safer.

Off today for a week in one of the former USSR rebublics. I doubt I'll find myself in similar conversations there, but we'll see...

From my experiences in the UK, I found the vast majority of Brits to be pathologically passive and submissive. Those who retained enough fortitude to be able to fend for themselves were disgusted with their countrymen.

Whenever I needed a little more elbow room in a bar, I started a casual conversation about the many benefits of licensed carry in the U.S.

During my time spent overseas in good ol' Europa, I found many reasons to expound on why we fought a revolution against the British and why my Ancestors left Germany. I personally have no love towards the lot of them. They seemed to exhibit, at least to me, that if you told them you were from Texas, and showed any pride in the South, you were a member of the Klan and a brutish Redneck. One of the things I really despise about our so-called Progressives is their slavish attitude and acceptance towards all things Europe including their hatred of the Christian South. I am proud to be an American, a Texan and a true Redneck as the word was meant to be. :patriot: :txflag: But, they do have good beer :cheers2:

I just sent a funny Texas post card to my best friend in England telling her I carry now. I know it is going to blow her mind! I snickered a good while after sending it. :fire She's gonna flip. I just wish I was there to see her expression. :smilelol5:

They are experiencing a massive influx of EU "foreigners" in the UK, many with criminal pasts in their home country. As much as I love the UK, it won't be the same country for much longer. They won't be able to hold onto that single mindedness for much longer, they are becoming a melting pot of people who flat out refuse to melt. They bring their nationality and culture and remain fixed in their minds, refusing to adapt.

I do believe their perspective on law enforcement, personal safety, and rights of individuals is scary. I respect what they're trying to hold onto, this British idealism, but the scary facts of crime are mounting. They may not have the mass shootings as often as we do, but the crimes against the individuals are just as horrifying. If they would dedicate a good look at their own knife, rape, pedophiles, burglary with violence, it would stack up to be a huge eye opener for them. How they can tolerate such crimes on a daily basis is beyond me. My ideas as an American and Texan totally rebel against these forms of criminal attacks. Why shouldn't I be able to defend myself in my own home or business without fear of being arrested and taken to jail for common human rights to self defense? They have story after story of criminals being made out of genuine citizen heroes protecting their homes and families. We as Americans have the idea of us having individual rights, they do not. They are not citizens they are SUBJECTS. Huge difference. Their long history of the monarchy has made them subservient to their Queen or King, they go with the flow, we take our individual rights much more seriously. They're trying to poison the idea of individualism with their extreme liberal agendas is what they're trying to do to us with their "scientific studies" about our gun culture. Go ahead, it's all going to backfire on you because sadly in 100 years you will no longer have the British culture you hold so dear.

If your friend flips out, or maybe even if she doesn't, send her an update each week your gun doesn't exert its prodigious influence and power to shoot someone. Remind her too that there are hundreds of thousands of other carrying individuals whose guns also aren't shooting someone without provocation in Texas alone -- and probably millions of gun-owners who don't carry that have seemingly pacifist projectile dispensing tools.

I can’t feature anyone with average intelligence reading that and believing it to be a “scientific study”. I believe even those with a little less than average intelligence would see it for what it is.

I have become very disappointed in the Brits. I have not read anything concerning the attitude of the Irish and Scottish people concerning self defense. Can anyone enlighten me?

Somewhat OT, but i had an interesting talk with a British import working the gun counter. His perspective was enlightening and observations interesting. A couple of the takeaways were:

1) There were areas he would not go because of the crime rate though he was a tall, well conditioned person. That he wasn't too worried about being shot but the possibility of being clubbed or stabbed was always in the back of his mind.

2) His opinion was that Australia was worse than England on gun laws but he never knew anybody that owned a gun, long or otherwise. However as new restrictions would be applied there was an immediate increase in crime rates both against persons and property though shootings were rare.

3) and the one that cracked me up, how polite we were in Texas and the other states he's been two where concealed carry was the norm.

Picking up a gun does not change most people. If a person was polite and thoughtful, they will be just as polite and thoughtful when they are carrying.
